Letter forms project:

This project takes a close look at everyday life use cases of letter forms, letter forms are often over looked since it is so seamlessly incorporated into every part of our lives.

Words and texts are an essential part of how we navigate in our environment, they exist virtually everywhere and they exists in all different kind of forms.

I started this project by taking pictures of unique letterforms that captures the attention of my eyes during my daily routines.

Here are a few samples:

After the pictures are taken, I go through all of them to pick out individual letters that stands out for its design. Then I gather all the individual letters to form a complete alphabet.

The process of retracing the letters on to tracing paper gave me a new appreciation to letter forms. It made me realized how much care and attention goes into making just one character and how much I have overlooked them.

I go from collecting sample pictures to selecting individual letters to reproduce them physically so I can have a starting place to work on later in Illustrator.

After all the characters are translated in illustrator, I string them together to create two words that reflects the shared values of my university - University of Houston Downtown.
